The Andy Warhol Photographs by William John Kennedy

This selection of photographs were taken 60 years ago in 1964 at the very moment Andy Warhol broke through onto the American art scene. They capture the moment of Warhol’s rise to worldwide fame and the change in the art world he ushered in.

William John Kennedy was best known for a series of photographs of artists, capturing candid and unstaged moments of their lives.  In the 1960’s he became friends with Warhol,  taking these photographs on the cusp of him becoming a household name and cultural icon. The series became forgotten about for over 50 years, existing only as a lost archive of negatives, transparencies and contact sheets until being rediscovered relatively recently.

This selection curated by David Broder and Virginia Damtsa is a sneak preview of a major exhibition at the Warhol Kennedy Residence in London in September, displayed with the kind permission of Neil Bookatz.

Limited edition prints are available.
